Just received my issue of Sports Illustrated in the mail and again we are dealing with another saga in the A-Rod soap opera. This time it’s the book “A-Rod” by SI writer Selena Roberts. There’s also more saga about his alleged steroid use and that it began when he was in high school. The Yankees are already hurting and don’t need the added distraction of a book. Really can’t blame A-Rod this time because he didn’t write the book and he finally said to the media that he “doesn’t want to go there.”
I don’t mean to be hard on Joe Girardi, but I think he needs to take control of a team that’s hurting. Girardi was given a good thing, after a long winning career with Joe Torre, and I want to see him be successful.
Will be off a couple of days to see Keith Urban at the Mohegan Sun arena with my girlfriend. Not much into country, but my girlfriend is a huge fan.
Until then, see you in Monkeyville!
P.S. Monkeyville is Keith Urban’s fan club.
Finally Manny Ramirez agreed in principal with the Dodgers on a new contract. $45 million to be exact. Not too bad for someone holding out. The New York Post quoted Joe Torre saying “we’re close on getting Manny on the field, and I think he’s basically champing at the bit to get the uniform on. After last year and the time he spent with us, we knew we wanted him back.”
Where Manny sits in annual salaries
- Alex Rodriguez $27.5M
- CC Sabathia $23.0M
- Johan Santana $22.9M
- Mark Teixeira $22.5M
- Manny Ramirez $22.5M
- Miguel Cabrera $19.0M
- Derek Jeter $18.9M
World Baseball Classic
The World Baseball Classic is underway. Checkout the MLB Network for up-to-the date news and games on the WBC.
Johan Santana says he’s ready for Opening Day. The events that led up to this on Santana:
- Last Saturday his announcement of elbow tendinitis puts his Opening Day start in jeopardy.
- Last Sunday will pitch a 31-pitch bullpen session.
- Last Tuesday he’s behind schedule
- Last Wednesday after a 46-pitch bullpen session, he’ll be ready.
A-Rod has a torn labrum in his right hip, which was caused by a large cyst. His treatment options are:
- Rest, Heat and cold treatments with exercise and rehab sessions.
- Offseason Surgery
We’ll have to wait and see, but the Yankees are hurting.
Until then, see ya at Spring Training!
the weather seems to be getting nicer, the sun is shining and Spring
Training is in full swing. This is what baseball fans wait for each
season, the start of summer. All the hoopla surrounding A-Rod, should fade away if he just tells the truth. But, who knows what A-Rod has up his sleeve? Do you believe A-Rod?
Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady
are in a financial pinch, after seeing their assets frozen by
investigators who are investigating the Robert Allen Stanford Company.
Anybody have a few bucks to offer?
Tom Glavine signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Atlanta Braves on Friday. Looking on the West Coast, second-baseman Orlando Hudson signed a $3.4 million, one-year contract with the Dodgers. He’s expected to fill the void Jeff Kent left announcing his retirement this past winter. Also, David Ortiz is still complaining about soreness in his left shoulder and sat out of the Red Sox workout session.
For all you Mets fans, take a look at Flushing9.com, brought to you by scribe John Strubel. Similar to what the Sporting News offers, Strubel has a Mets digital magazine. Interesting stuff.
The Coolest Race
All interested runners, take a look at John Hanc’s new book: “The Coolest Race on Earth: Mud, Madmen, Glaciers and Grannies at the Antarctica Marathon.” I’ve
known John for the last 20-years from the New York Institute of
Technology and writing. A great scribe, who authored seven previous
books, John’s byline can be seen in Newsday, The New York Times, Runner’s World, etc. By the way, he did complete 24 marathons.
Until then, see ya in Antarctica!
I’m pretty much done on the whole A-Rod saga and probably won’t mention anymore here or at my other writing space “The Journal News” (Lohud.com). Too much and then Miguel Tejada pleading guilty that he lied to Congress. What’s next?
Anyway, here’s a look at recent signings by team:
Angels — Bobby Abreu
Nationals — Adam Dunn
Orioles — Signed INF Ty Wigginton to a two-year contract.
Royals — Signed OF Eric Shortell and LHP Dan Cevette to Minor League contracts.
Rangers — Signed OF Andruw Jones and RHP Brendan Donnelly to Minor League contracts.
Blue Jays — Acquired RHP Matt Brush from the Padres.
Astros — Signed OF Michael Bourn, RHP Sammy Gervacio, LHP Polin Trinidad and LHP Wesley Wright to one-year contracts.
Padres — Named John Vander Wal professional scout.
Until then, see ya at Spring Training!
The A-Rod soap opera continues in today’s Sunday Edition newspapers. Like wildfire, the media outlets are going crazy. Long Island Newsday has an interesting story on the Texas Rangers link to steroids. You can read it at Newsday.com.
Heres a list of names from the Rangers that have been linked to steroids:
1. Ken Caminiti
2. Juan Gonzalez
3. Mike Judd
4. Rafael Palmeiro
5. Herbert Perry
6. John Rocker
7. Ivan Rodriguez
8. Ismael Valdez
9. Randy Velarde
10. Steve Woodard.
I would say that a P.R. firm would help about now.
Until then, see ya at the park!
